MAET Words, 2014

One of theĀ great activities from this summer was the collaboration between all three MAET courses to create the video you see below. Those of us in Chicago teamed up with the East Lansing cohort and the overseas cohort in Galway, Ireland to piece together this excellent Steve Jobs quote (which you can see in it’s entirety below).

Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: that everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that people can use. Maybe that’s the most important thing, to shake off this erroneous notion that life is there and you’re just gonna live in it, versus embrace it, change it, improve it, make your mark upon it. However you learn this, you’ll want to change life, and make it better. Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same. – Steve Jobs

Student iMovie Project

One of my goals this year was to allow my students more opportunities to create and manipulate media to demonstrate their understanding of content we cover in class. Through the chaos of my first year at a new school, I was not able to offer these opportunities for all assessments, but I am happy to say that my students are taking advantage of more and more opportunities. Below is an example of one such opportunity. After completion of our Poverty Unit in my International Relations class, one option was for student’s to demonstrate their learning through the creation of a Public Service Announcement, designed to educate the public about poverty. With very little direction from me, and using only a MacAir with iMovie, a couple students created this great PSA.
